Most of the time I use a pair of channel lock pliers! But there is a special socket that takes the unit off!

Generally they are screwed into the engine block. Typically just unplug the connector to the oil sending unit and a wrench to unscrew the oil sending unit.

Not sure where it is located on the block of the 2000 Neon.

On a car this new, why?

If you are not getting a reading on your dash or have a light on, you may be having some other problems. A oil pressure sender, normaly never fails

I wonder what is wrong and why you want to change it?

Is the light on, in the dash? or Dose the light not come on at all.

Check the oil level, Check the wire going to the sender. Let us know what else is going on. You dont want to hurt the engine. Good Luck Dave

They make a special sending unit socket for removal, just unplug connector and unscrew sensor. I think there is a software flash for the instrument cluster for oil gauge issues.. make sure the wiring at the sensor is ok also.
The sensor is on the back side of the engine, close to the transmission.

your sending unit is located by your oil filter and it unscrews and all you do is screw the new one back in,but dont over tighten it or it might break off(just snug it up so it wont leak)hope this helps you.
