because you have lost vacuum into the hvac unit. its a default position in you lose vacuum, it blows out the defrost, check your vacuum canaster under the hood and follow the vacuum lines from there, make sure its still hooked to the engine and then goes into the vehicle. after that its either gonna be the switch or a vacuum loss

possibly a vacuum leak for the supply vacuum to a/c-heater control or a leaking vacuum actuator. If the mode door has an electrical actuator it could be the actuator itself. The mode door is spring loaded in the defrost position, or thats were the air is routed in case of failure.

It could be a vacume line,i had a car that did that to and that is what it was,call your Ford dealer and ask a tech what he thinks to,because it's hard to be 100% sure.
