Depends on , when u want 2 travel. In october, the weather in the northern national parks can be pretty cold with temperature below 30 at night . But on the other side, then the parks as Yellowstone,Grand Teton, Glacier,North Cascades are not so overcrowded.
We spent our holidays years ago in Utah, visting Bryce Canyon, Zion NP, Arches and Canyonlands, and in the north of Utah near Vernal the National Dinosaur Monument ( very impressing and a real nice campground ). And Arches and Canyonlands is always worth to visit.
Have a nice trip and best regards from Hamburg,Germany

All the places listed are totally worth seeing. I would recommend traveling through the Black Hills in South Dakota. There's the hotsprings toward the south of the black hills, and heading north through Keystone by Mount Rushmore. Though Mt. Rushmore is o.k. the sights around it are beautiful. You will see the progress of Crazy Horse. Plus it's surrounded by national forest and you can camp for free in the forest ( check to make sureyou don't need a special pass) Also, theres a spot where the mighty bison run free..... Enjoy

Of the places i've got been. a million. Sedona, Arizona (has a lot of paying for, yet you do no longer could do this section) 2. Grand Canyon & Monument Valley section 3. SE peninsula of Alaska (Ketchikan to Skagway) by using Alaska State Ferry (much less costly thank you to do it) 4. Greenville, Maine (this fairly is God's usa) 5. San Juan Islands in Puget Sound (close to Seattle). suited now could be a stable time to return to New England, climate is super. playstation - Lake Tahoe is fairly severe-high quality, as is the section around Eureka, CA. The previous Bonanza television prepare grow to be filmed close to Lake Tahoe. The areas of California east of the Sierra is fairly very exciting. The Joshua tree wooded area grow to be beautiful to me.

I like Mt Rushmore and The Badlands N.P.
Consider this, fly to Alaska and rent an RV there. That's a trip you'll never forget. Don't forget to purchase a copy of The Milepost.

There are way too many places to list. My advise would be buy a good atlas and pick a place. I have drive off the beaten path and there are so many things to see. The entire country is worth seeing. But if you want specifics:
Yellowstone
Grand Canyon
Montana
Bad Lands
Death Valley.............
