To be honest with you it really depend on how quickly your skin heals, for me it took me 8 weeks before I could change mine but my friend changed hers after 1 week so it really depends On he type of skin you have. Do nnot attempt to remove if you feel that you have not heeled, because if you catch an infection it could be irreversible. Just make sure that your cleaning ot properly everyday, with cotton wool and salt water or whatever your piercer advised you to do. do not exposure your piercing to the sun, an do not attempt to go swimming if you haven't healed. When your ready to change piercings you will know because you will see that wound has healed. If you are unsure about changing then maybe you should ask your piercer, because every skin heals differently, so just because your friends one may heal quicker doesn't mean yours is, so be safe rather than being sorry.

You should wait more than three months or until it's completely healed. If you take out the belly ring and your piercing is not healed you won't be able to get the new ring in and you can get an infection. You can tell when it's healed because it won' t pus anymore. Make sure the first time you change the belly ring, you wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap and don't put one in that's too heavy.
I had to wait six months to change my belly ring. I'm glad I did wait because I have had no problems and now I can change it whenever I want.

I changed my belly ring LONG after the six month time frame and it didn't bother me a bit. I used Dial liquid soap to wash it and put Bacitracin on it everyday. I've had three surgeries this year where they went in through the belly button and the hole didn't close up. About four days after the last procedure, I put my belly ring back in and it hasn't bothered me a bit. Incidentally though, I've had my belly pierced since I was 27 and I'm now 37. (According to my mom, WAY too old to have a belly piercing but I've worked very hard on my body and I like to show it off.)

Definitely three months. It is the deepest body piercing that you can get, and so needs plenty of care. I got mine done three years ago when I was fifteen, and even though I waited the full three months before changing the original bar, it still got a little infected and was painful and inflamed for a few months, because I stopped cleaning it. It should be ok to change it now, if it is no longer tender or red from the piercing, but make sure you are scrupulously clean and keep using salt water or special antiseptic solution to keep it germ free until you're totally sure it is healed and healthy.

Ask them were you got it pierced. I had one and it never seemed to heal. I could not button my pants because it always hurt my stomach where the piercing was. Don't leave the piercing out long. The hole could close up. I left mine out one time for a few hours. The hole was trying to form a scab. I had to jab the belly ring back into the opening. That made it bleed. Finally I just decided to take the ring out altogther. I missed it because it did like pretty. I didnt like it hurting all the time.

you've waited longer than most, at my shop we would tell people to wait atleast 2 weeks-really the longer the better as it will cause irriation but the hole wont immediatly try to close on them. Be sure to wash your hands and the new jewelry (of course the piercing area goes w/o saying) before you touch the piercing.

I know it's hard to wait.. but whatever you do LET IT HEAL, don't change it for at least 6 months!, after that time period, feel free to change it yourself, or go and get it professionally changed if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.
