No they are not. They are two totally separate items. The universal joint is the joint used to connect the drive shaft to the rear differential. The carrier bearing is usually used on a split shaft( two piece) drive shaft to change distance and angle of the drive line between the tranny and rear differential (usually longer wheel base vehicles). There may be universal joints near the carrier bearing, but, they are two separate things. Hope this helps........good luck ! INside the rear differential there is a bearing called a carriage bearing that supports the gear cluster.

no a u joint allows the rear end to pivot and go up and down, a carrier bearing supports a 2 piece drive shaft in the center. now im not sure what you mean by a differential carrier bearing

any joint is used only for connecting 2 shafts & universal joint can connect 2 shafts which are not colinear. but differtial carrier bearing holds the shaft. the differentail carrier bearing is situated at the rear side

Nope.... Universal joints are located on either end of your drive shaft...and sometimes also in the middle on certain trucks...carrier bearings are located in the differential housing.. Universal joints are less expensive to change ...

No, a universal joint is on the ends of the drive shaft, carriers are not.

no!,its different,a carrier bearing is a bearing installed half way between your drive shaft and universal joints are at the ends of your drive shaft.

The bearing in the center of a drive shaft is NOT a
carrier brng. That brng is called a hanger brng. The
carrier brngs. support the carrier assembly inside
the axle housing where differential action takes place.
