determine whether a=b, a is a subset and = to b, B is a subset and = to a, a is a subset of b, b is a subset of a or none of these.

I'm confused! Is A a subset of b, or is B a subset of a? That's what I'm trying to figure out because a can be infinte posiblities but b list the types, so I'm lost! Help!

Assuming A is ALL brand of ice creams, then b is a subset of A.

This is because A conains all brands of ice cream, including those in B. B is just a portion (subset) of A.

Trick is, A says "a brand of ice cream." If we assume that to be a specific band, depending on what that is, the answer varies. If A brand is Breyers, B&J or HD, then A is a subset of B. If not, it is "none of these."

If we read "a brand" to be any brand, then since A is only ONE, A is a subset of B.

The question is poorly formed.

By the way, you are doing just fine. Math is all about making you think logically and you are doing exactly it. Yes, there are more than possibilities in the way this question is written.

As to finding the right answer, I suggest looking at your text book line by line. Usually, questions in your text book follows the examples given elsewhere. Try to find it and see what logic they follow.

Seems to me B is a subset of A. B includes three brands of ice cream while A includes all brands of ice cream (we're assuming more than three brands of ice cream exist).

If you look at this logically, you will see that b fits into the category of a. Bryers, etc, are all brands of ice cream, but an not an all-inclusive of every brand of ice-cream, therefore they are not equal, but a subset of the more general category, brands of ice cream.
