If Tom and Jerry are to be censored coz Tom has the odd cigarette, what about all these new cartoons that show people and animals being cut up and blown up, i love cartoons, am not a prude, but why can't they leave Tom and Jerry alone?

Tom & Jerry is one of the most violent 'kids' cartoons, if parents are willing to let their children watch it then why is smoking in it any worse? I'm not saying its right or wrong to ban the smoking, but if you're going to do that then why not ban the whole cartoon for fear of kids setting their cats on fire or hitting them with a frying pan?! Its ridiculous. I personally think that if we have to take *that* much care over what we expose kids to, for fear of imitation, then society as a whole has problems.

Because some parents are lazy and they want other to decide what's good for everyone's children.
Surely they know what Tom and Jerry is about, that it's violent and balh blah, but I am also very sure they don't seat with their children to watch what they watch and realise cartoons today have lots of violence too: they just might think they're safe.

I think it is morally responsible that they do not want to promote smoking...it is really no different than bluring out the finger or bleeping a swear word on tv. People are so "sue" happy out there, they are probably just covering their bases so that some parent doesn't sue the network for showing a cartoon where there is someone smoking...then their kid starts smoking...they blame the cartoon...sue the network....etc....

Cos Gov try to stop kids copy any cartoon who smoke so that what advertising to kids "smoke kills" and they never bother or noticed so that they put Tom and Jerry to wake kids up "that Smoke kills you" by Tom and Jerry.

it is a bit stupid. i don't like smoking but the cartoons show violence and other un pc things so a ciggy every now and again won't hurt.

i was gonna use the word f a g instead of ciggy as that is what is normally said where i live but it showed up as asterics. weird?!
