A close one. The Stones have the advantage of longevity and some good recent stuff.
But compare them in the 60s and it's not even close. Maybe an album or two's worth of good stuff from the Stones and the rest is mediocre. Compared to the Beatles' catalog - almost all of it groundbreaking and great.
Exile on Main Street is a killer, though.
Beatles win.
Trust me. I have heard every Beatles and Stones record.

Definately the Rolling Stones. The Stones were the bad boys as opposed to the clean cut image of the Beatles. Besides, if you want gritty blues, check out the older Stones tunes released on Decca Records (Spider and Fly, Little Red Rooster) Not to mention some of the gritty lyrics (Memo from Turner, not to mention Star ****** or Cock Sucker Blues)

The Rolling Stones. They were my first concert in 1974 when I was 13. Only band I owned all their music on 8 Track Tapes first, then Vinyl, and now on CD.
