I assume you mean in the trailer, right? 'cause the tractor dosen't carry any. (it does, however carry 100 to 200 gallons of diesel fuel.)
A 44' tanker trailer has a capacity of about 9,000 gallons. That being said, I doubt you would ever see a tanker at full capacity.
The legal gross vehicle weight limit is 80,000 lbs for a 5 axle vehicle. An empty tractor/trailer weighs about 35,000 lbs, leaving about 45,000 lbs for cargo. Gasoline weighs about 8 lbs/gallon. 8 x 9000 = 72,000 lbs.
If you tried to get 107,000 lbs of truck by a scalehouse it wouldn't work out too well. (DOT frowns on that sort of thing.)
Since they figure overweight fines based on how far you are overweight, that would be a hefty one!

approximately 9,000 gallons

FYI: a military C5 holds approximately 49,000 gallons in it's tanks(that's just for it's use), AND the engine intakes are 9' in diameter, AND if you took the wings and tail off a 747 you could put it in the cargo hold of a C5.
How's dat for useless information?
