Most "popular" music is rap/hiphop and anything that was written by people other than the song n dance performers... REAL music would be metal and rock, perhaps with rock still being more popular overall here in the states. not gonna break down sub-genres as there are a great many

I think every genre is covered. College students are incredibly open-minded and diverse.... As for myself -- being in that age group -- I'm a bluegrass, blues and soul fan.
Though of course I like (select) songs from every genre... :) Just turn to the radio station that you hear most often while driving down the street -- that's what folks are listening to in your area.

Yeah palmmute is right hip hop is the most popular type of music but not because of talent.

In this day and age it seems to be Rap, Hip Hop & R&B but it DOES depend on where you live. In some places it would adamently be country *vomit* like the backwoods town where I grew up. Then again if you ask a younger crowd you will probably get Pop as your answer.
My favorite, however, is rock/alternative.

REAL rock from the 70s is making a huge retro return as scores of college students "discover" sounds from Heart, Van Halen, Styx and vintage Rolling Stones. Given how souredly bad "alternative" and rap have both become, it's little wonder why REAL rock makes a welcomed return.

In my existence, I want Bachata...yet i'm Cubana. A Mexican would like Mariachi or interior sight Mexican, and in South American international places, they seem to need persons music like Violeta Parra. a tremendous form of Nuyoricans love Reggaeton. it easily relies upon on decision.
