I used to be quite the fan of Anne Rice, but ever since "Blackwood Farm" I haven't been able to tolerate her writing much. In my opinion, her best writing was almost everything from "Interview with the Vampire" up to "Blood and Gold." I did not like "Blackwood Farm" very much at all.

I have stopped reading certain authors in the last few years. I don't think it has to do with their fame though.
It's to do with the fact they seem to have run out of fresh, new perspectives and ideas. I can't stand Danielle Steele or John Grisham for this very reason. There is nothing original about their work anymore. It's all formulatic.
I suspect this is what others would say about Anne Rice as well as I'm personally bored by her work. There is nothing fresh or exciting about her vamps any more. Alls been said that can be said on the subject.
Cheers

I would certainly agree about Anne Rice. But I would also say I've stopped reading Stephen King, John Grisham and others for that very reason.

I'm nost sure her fame was an issue, but I lost interest in Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books mid-way through Obsidian Butterfly. Kind of a bummer because I did love the earlier books in the series and never did get to Narcissus in Chains, evn though that was the first book I bought before I realized it was, at the time I bought it, the latest in a series!! s.

I think JK is just as good, but there are several authors I've quit reading over the years: Patricia Cornwell, John Grisham, Laurell K Hamilton. I think sometimes there writing just isn't as good or they've just used up their original ideas.

Anne Rice, John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell all seem to be either repeating themselves or running out of decent stories.

Patricia Cornwell has declined so rapidly, it's practically a collapse.
Jonathan Kellerman's stuff became unreadable 3 or 4 years ago.

RA Salvatore.
I like his vivid descriptions of action sequences but sometimes, the emotional parts get somewhat repetitive and cliched.

i completely agree about Stephen King.
I'd actually have to add David Edding's new series to the list...it isn't very good
Also, Nora Roberts...omg...save me
