Britain is made up of several areas: England, Wales, Scotland, etc. The white flag you saw was the English flag. Collectively, these regions are known as "Great Britain." That's the Blue and Red one.
Kind of like state flags and the American flag here in the US.

the union jack is for the whole of the UK, Like england, Scotland, wales and n. irl and the one with the red cross is just for England
