I have a 94 Ford Explorer XLT, whenever you press the gas, it has a roaring noise, but whenever you let off gas or hit brake it stops. It is a 4X4 w/ 164k. What could this be??!!

It is not the wheels.

You may have a wheel bearing out on the rear. If the bearing is out and the ABS sensor is a sealed type, the overheated bearing could have damaged the sensor. Have it checked out by a mechanic before you damage the axle or housing. This could even be bearings inside the differential. I don't know for sure if this is your problem, but, it sounds like a bearing issue.

You have to be a little more specific..... Do you mean pressing the gas in Park or Neutral, or when your accelerating.
If the noise is there in Park & Neutral and it changes with engine RPM, check the fan clutch. If they seize, it will sound like a small propeller airplane !!!
Wheel bearings will only be noisey when your actually moving and the noise from them changes with road speed, not RPM, also, wheel bearings noises don't change with on & off the gas, but differential pinion bearings will !!!!
