well, when it comes to the theater it depends on where the theater is and what you are seeing.

if you are going to broadway to see a show, then i would suggest an elegant dress...not necessarily an evening gown, but something very nice and conservative (no boobs hanging out:)

if it's a more hometown show, then i would say dress pants or a nice dress would be appropriate. however, there is a playhouse close to my home and it is not air conditioned and the plays take place in the summer, so many people wear casual khakis, polos, some even wear shorts, but nice shorts....no cut-offs.

if it's an inbetweener then i would wear a nice dress or pants outfit...depending on your style.
look as if you are going somwhere better than the movies.
if i go to the movies or out to dinner, then i dress up a bit. i may put on some more jewelry or accessories. i put in a little more effort.
if i was going to the theater, then i would wear either a nice fall dress or pants outfit and kick it up a few more notches than you would for dinner or movies!

hope this helped!

take care and enjoy the show!!!!

IT really depends on the show your going to see. I work in a performing arts theatre. I suggest wearing either a nice pair of dress pants and a blouse or a skirt. You do not have to dress formal since you are just going to see Dirty Dancing. However, jeans is not a good idea. It is not wrong it is just tacky.

Dress code is generally wear anything comfortable. I have seen people dress in cardigans with holes in it, trainers, jeans and even boob tubes to watch the phantom of the opera. And I'm yet to see anyone get turned away. I would say dress smart, you don't want to feel under dresses, but believe me in comparison to what people normally wear it doesn't take much to feel over dressed. It was my bday a few month ago, saw les mes.. wore a nice dress (looked like a dinning dress) and it was as though I was the centre of everyones attention, bcz I was technically "so much more dressed up than everyone there" I felt a little awkward but it was my bday, so brushed off the stears.

Wear something nice, like a blouse and some nice slacks or even a casual dress. You should never wear jeans or a t-shirt.

Since this is an occasion why don't you do dressy casual? We always go out to dinner after the theater and it's nice to be
dressed well.

A black spaghetti strap, knee length dress with a nice pair of comfy black heels, not too high. Cute purse and a light jacket...classy casual

Wear nice clothes, but not too fancy. Like don't wear a prom dress. (by your avatar I'm assuming you're a girl. If you're a guy, don't wear a tux.)

Most people get really dressed up to attend the theater.
