I have my husband. My best friend.. He is always there for me. And never pushes me when I am down. And I also have a few really good friends.I would rather have a few really good friends that I can trust and have fun with, than a whole bunch of Crappy friends that don't really give a dam about you.

You know what the problem is? No matter how many good friends you have, even really close friends, like family. There is always a situation or problem or personality change that causes one to loose them, often temporarily but still. I always notice that people tend to think and act in their own interest and if that matches a lot with somebody else's, you can call yourself friends. The moment these similarities fade, the friendship fades with it. It is with family and relatives that you have spent a childhood together and then you have common grounds upon which you can base your friendship, but even then your personalities must match enough in order to last.

What I am trying to say is: the less you expect of another person when it comes to friendship, the more friends you will have. Follow your own rules and your own path, be a friendly and polite person and you will find friends who treat you with dignity and respect.

I have a friend , I met her in 1956, we lived in different countries and different states during that 50 year life span. I named a daughter after her. We kept writing and calling. Now she retired near me. We have lunch once a week and talk about our lives. We both developed in different areas, she is a widow , I have a sick husband, she is wealthy I am still working . Yet we know that a call is all it takes and I will be there and she will be here. She is the only friend too in my autumn years and that is all I need.

Well, I thought I had one. She got into major drug use and when I tried to help her and explain to her how she had driven alot of her friends away she started yelling at me and hadn't called me again. We live and different states and had been friends since '98. She is the only one with long distance. But she doesn't have a computer. I even offered her my spare room in my house till she got herself fixed up and she is just to afraid to leave her home. She even told me that.

I have one, but she is like absent, most of the times. She use to call me her twin, but I got a boyfriend, which is now my fiance, and she got a boyfriend so we are sort of going our own way. But we've got a very strong bond, sometimes I can feel when something is wrong, and then when I phone, I'm right, same with her.
