To me, that phrase is insulting.

I'm considered skinny by some at 5"6/110 lbs. Because I don't have "curves", does this mean I am a transexual in women's clothing? Aren't some "curves" mostly shaped by bones? E.g. slightly wider hip bones + a small tummy can give one a curvy shape!

And just because my boobs are a size B not D, does that mean I am not womanly enough? At what size or level of "curviness" exactly does a girl become "WOMANLY"? And when did fat become the sole sign of womanliness?

Isn't that phrase a way to make big girls feel better by putting skinny people down? Why can't we all be more confident about ourselves without stepping over other people's confidence?

Why can't people agree both skinny AND big girls can be sexy? It doesn't have to be one way or the other. I don't know why a guy has to be "brainwashed by the media" because he likes a skinny girl.

So, I know the quote is a confidence booster to some but is it really fair to use?

Thanks.

I think these types of insulting phrases might apply to other prejudices too - with skin color, religion etc. For example, a black person saying "the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice." Okay, that's nice but how wil the lighter berries feel? lol

I think we should find phrases that don't "take sides" or discriminate. But maybe I am just not reading into them well. I'd love to hear some answers about my confusing Q. :)

That is an excellent question.

As hard as it is to believe, it's not meant as in insult to you, or any other slender woman. While all the skinny girls are being told that they are the ideal, all the fashion models are toothpicks, and every new style is being designed for narrow bodies, it's hard for women with curves to feel attractive. The truly voluptuous women (the real usage, not a modern day twist) are being told that they are full figured. The full figured women are being told that they are fat. And the overweight ones are being told that they are "disgustingly" or "morbidly" obese. God help any women that ARE "morbidly obese." I doubt they could even attempt to go out of their homes without ridicule.

Look at it from the other side, if you were 5'6" and 130lbs, would you want to feel ugly? I'm not talking about pure fat weight gain, but if you developed naturally a curvy figured with a full bust line, wide hips, and a rounded bottom while growing up. Women like that need to be reminded that they are beautiful too.

As a curvy woman, I don't feel too fat or too skinny. But I did 10 years ago when I was in high school, and before that. It was hard going to school with girls that are built like you. They looked fabulous in all the latest fashions and styles. I got sent to the counseler's office by teachers because the tight shirts looked trampy on me. A short skirt got me sent to the principals office. If I showed cleavage, I got sent home. I learned at the age of 13 that I was expected to dress differently than other girls because I had large breasts, a small waist, rounded hips, and a butt. The other girls were small busted (A or B) with slender hips not much wider than their waists. They could dress however they wanted with little or no comment. They didn't look too sexy or too mature in the same clothing, or even more revealing, that got me in trouble.

Now at 27, I am happy with my body. All women can be beautiful, but it's hard to accept when the fashion industry is fixated on the girls built like you, and the "average" dress size in the US is a 14. Women like me who are in between get lost in the middle. We aren't fat, we aren't skinny, and clothing isn't made for curves. It's either plus sized, or added fabric from the size two.

For full figures and plus sizes, I think that the usage of "curvy" or "voluptuous" is wrong. They are using words that should be complementary to disguise their true bodies. Now, the terms are used as a polite way to say the woman is overwieght. It's corrupted the true definations. They actually mean a woman with a full bust and/or hips. Not extra size and/or weight.

People base what looks good solely on what magazines say. They don't have big women in a magazine and say she is hot, so no one else is going to think that way. People let other people judge for them. That is why there are so many women/girls out there starving theirselves and throwing up. A long time ago, Marilyn Monroe was hot and she was big. Now you have to look like a street lamp to be considered hot. There are some people out there that don't let magazines judge for them, but most do. Women don't consider that these women in magazines don't have anything else to do, but work out and have someone to prepare their low cal diets and have a personal trainer. That is their job, to look good. Regular women have to work, take care of their household, take care of their children, and etc... and really don't have time to take care of their bodies. I have never heard that phrase before, but it sounds about right in this society.

Hon this quote was made by fat people to make themselves feel better.. It's the same as the quote, "beauty is in the eyes of the beyonder." You see it's for ugly people, giving them a little confidence that's all.

don't get upset by it, these phrases are said so curvier women can feel like women too, they are you know, you are no less a woman then they are and they are no more the woman you are. i myself am a skinny girl (5'5''/103lbs) and honestly i hope that this not what people think of girls like us, but I've never gotten that vibe before i guess to each their own preferences.

really the phrase combats the view that you have to be very thin to be sexy like most models today are...you are beautiful to God no matter what you look like because he made you in His image. Never forget that! Oh yeah and beauty is only skin deep...you will find that it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside-it's how you look on the inside that really matters.

you're letting envious jerks get the best of you. that's their tactic to bring you down and ruin the way you feel generally.

don't listen to that crap that's just by people who take looks at sender people and get all upset that they can't be like that or they just want to put you down and feel all big about it becuase you're not their type.

they do it to make themselves feel big. they know not all are to their preference but somehow they take extra time out to make you feel bad about yourself. don't listen to it.

there's something pathetically wrong with wastes of 'come' like that. most likely something ineffecient with the way they feel about themselves or they've been picked on and have to find an outlet to bully another instead of slapping the living fecal material out of the perpetraitor.

(i know my spelling sucks too lazy to use an inadequate spell checker)

it's just bigotry and bullying.

let it pass as you'll find if they see you don't give a red cent about what they say or those things, they soon pass like an old advertisement.

remember if you're skinny... you are the envy, there's alot of chunkers out there who'd die to be you.

i'm a bit thin and i have people who just drop what they're doing to come over to me to insult me, call me names and accuse me of being anorexic... (oh? anorexic at 170lbs at 6'1'', oh sure give me a DAM break already) they're upset that's all.. all they got to do is eat right, exersize.. blah blah blah you know it already.

just smile and walk away then wave and do that booty thing that'll really get them upset and talking he he!

just enjoy it, flaunt it!
