there is a usb plug on the direct tv + (tivo). can I connect the receiver to a pc to record onto a dvd rw? will windows xp be able to import from the receiver?

That USB port has to be "activated" to work. The DirecTV receiver isn't activated. On TiVos that aren't DirecTV, they have some function, but it isn't to record out. The best way to do it is to get yourself a really good video card for your computer that allows you to have an SVideo or Component input, or buy a separate box that converts the video for your computer, and you are good to go. I did it, copied a bunch of kids programs, football games, movies to DVD. It's easy. There are TiVos with DVD recorders, too, I believe.

The drive in your PC wont read the +rw format try using -rw and see if it makes a difference

not possible and if you could it would be piracy . possable they want to sell it to you . you dont have the right to decript thier signal if you want sat that you can do this to a free to air sat the replacement for the old c band etf
