A CV looks a lot like a resume on steroids. While resumes are brief teases of work and educational history that try to focus on select skills and abilities, a CV is much more detail oriented. You still want to focus on skills and accomplishments, but you do so in more detail. The length of a resume is 1 page, 2 pages max, while a CV is often 3 - 15 pages in length. It will feature research experience, publications, presentations as well as past work experiences and teaching experience. A CV is most often used in educational settings as on occasion in some government agencies. Outside of education, most fields prefer a resume over a CV. If you are applying for a position in a field education a CV is appropriate, if not, then first you have to determine if a CV or resume is appropriate.

it depends on what your CV looks like, if you have a lot of gaps between work with inconsistent jobs, then i suggest you use the functional CV where you focus on your transferable skills.

if you have a consistent CV with no gaps in jobs, the go for a cronological CV which shows consistent growth in job position.
