I regularly get requests on either skype or messenger or myspace, asking for my contact details.....i dont like chatting to strangers online....am i the only one...or what do you think of online chats with people you dont know...waste of time or not? What are the pro's and cons??

I generally stick to "chatting" with people who I really care to strike up a friendship with, not just random people who seek me out. It's wise to use caution who you choose to divulge ANYTHING about yourself online to. Nobody knows anyone on here. Not really.

I think in some ways, it can be a good way to meet people who have the same interests as you do. Not everyone that uses the Internet is a sexual predator, so it's fairly safe to chat lightly with strangers. However, if a stranger starts asking questions that are too personal, perverted or degrading, it's best to block them and reports them if possible. It's the select few that ruin things for the rest of us, and unfortunately (though it's rare), speaking to a stranger online can be dangerous. In my opinion, if you would like to talk to someone online, do it, but just be aware of the potential dangers.

I dont belong to skype or myspace but some friends of mine put all my info on yahoo personals about two years ago and that is how I met the man of my dreams and now we are married and trying to conceive our first child so be picky about who you talk to nothing wrong with watching out for number one yourself.

i used to but i had a bad experience and now i don't because you just don't know who you are talking to ..you know i once met a guy on line and long story short he was a freak and computer whizz had all my passwords ans cyber stalked me for a bit till my hubby threatened to kill him,it was a dark period in my life that i never want to revisit and i wouldn't recommend chatting with someone you don't know,just because it could be dangerous and expensive because this guy f******* up my computer remotely and it cost me a fortune to fix

I don't like to talk to strangers either. If it is someone from my faith and I just haven't met them yet then that is different. I will talk to them. Generally though I don't talk to people I don't know. It is just creepy.

I usually try and be open minded, but people who do this, usually end up being pretty creepy in the long run and I regret my open-mindedness
