I love Harry Potter.
"Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time" by Mark Haddon is one of my favorites too. I liked it so much I ordered the hardback from London because I preferred their cover. Ok, I go overboard. ;)

"Kindred"-by Octavia Butler. Brilliant dark fantasy book that I spent several years taking everywhere.
Non-fiction goes to Mr. Lewis. "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis is brilliant and it makes you think.
The recently late (r.i.p.) Ms. Butler is my favorite author.
