You need to advertise on newspapers that will be read by prospective clients. For example if your business is in a particular locality advertise in a newspaper that serves that area. Maybe, in a magazine that serves the type of client you have in mind. the advertisement should point to your website. Sort of cascade your advertising. A little like a shortcut on your computer pointing to the main program. A full page advertisement in a newspaper of magazine will cost a lot. You can have lots of pages on a website for very little. I'll give you my website as a source so you can see what you can do with a tiny website - just 15 Mb - email me if you need help and need to learn design quick! Also a place that does domains and webspace at a decent price.
Give me top answer for taking the time to give good advice!

I've given you 3ix org for if you're outside the UK and the UK site.

I believe architecture is to be about design and structure. People looking on your website need to be influenced and impressed. If you have a poorly designed website they may think this reflects your business. I know freewebs etc are best to start out, but employ someone who knows that they're doing. Mine cost about £700, then around £50 each year for hosting, domains etc.

Also try advertising in the paper, yellow pages, submit your website to search engines etc. They may be specialist magazines for your area of work which you might want to submit to

There are some useful advice centres and training courses out there, try link below for help. I suppose you already have some industry contacts otheriwse why choose that industry, but if not then you ned to do lots of amrket research to help identify the answers to your questions. What type of practice? Are you going to look to subcontract to big companies or go direct to market? Once you know your market and the competion then you can look at your USP (unique sell points - ie why you as opposed to everyone else), and then look at how to reach these people (websites/advertising etc).

I woild look at some competi tors websites and pull off samples of thsoe you like as well as look at other industries and use them to hekp you define your own ideas (then DIY or you can get a web designer to do it). Good Luck

My advice would be to go to www.freewebs.co.uk and set up a website with them first. It'll be totally free unless you upgrade to premium then get some business cards printed and contact everyone in that line of business to try and get yourself known. You could also add a free advert in Thomson Directory and Yellow Pages and also submit your site to various free advertisement sites online. Before you know it....you'll be well known and it'll all go down on reputation! Good Luck! ;-)

I have just started a small business, what I did was first was to check if a domain name was free, I don't mean to place an advertisement here but just to explain what I did. My web site is www.shropshiretilers.com (and) .co.uk both were available so I paid for two years on each, so I next re-applied for a yahoo log as... first name Shropshire.. Second name tilers @ yahoo.co.uk.... shropshiretilers is my log on and my web sites... soon I will be putting small ads in the local news papers just mentioning Shropshire tilers... hopefully search engines will pop me up.... so making money....
I hope I have not done anything dodgy here, and I hope it works for you.
