It means that you are the one in charge of your feelings and reactions to what happens to you in life. If you are going to let every little thing get you down, then you will be a miserable person. If you realize that life is a series of ups and downs and that "this too shall pass", and learn to see the humor in things, your life will be more pleasant.
If you depend on others to make you happy, you will be sorely disappointed every time.

Life is what you make it means that the interpretation of your life is yours. Regardless what others may do, what you feel about your life is all that matters. As for destiny, we are like Brownian particles, shoved and pushed and otherwise guided through life. Yet, the course of each and every particle that does the shoving is predictable and thus the course of the Brownian particle is predictable. So, yes there is destiny in a manner of speaking.

It means all the usual cliches. When life hands you a lemon make lemonade. You always have a choice. You choose your own destiny. For instance you have a choice to eat healthy or eat junk. Everyday. Say you choose junk on a continous basis. When you are 50 you have a heart attack. Choices you made. For instance, you make a decision to lie about something, think I won't get caught, you get caught. You pay the consquences. Also you choose to be happy or sad. See things only in black & white. Choose to live in the past or the future. Just some examples. Hope this helps.

It means your decisions and your actions create the sequence of cause and effect that is your own personal history, your life. Also, it means you control how you think about your life. Glass half full? Half empty? For example, your life partner may sometimes get on your nerves. A bummer? Maybe not. What you if think about what life would be like if your partner were suddenly dead? This thought can help you appreciate the moment, forgive the small things. Yes, things beyond your control impinge on your life, but you're in control of how you react to it.

The truth is some people think that they can't do things because of their circumstances. Other people think positive and when life gives them a bunch of lemons they make lemonade. It has to do with initiative. It's better to do something than nothing. There are those on the negative side who turn every situation into a catastrophe. Something goes right and they complain anyway. They would be miserable no matter how good they had it. Those who have seemingly everything and still do drugs for example.

"Life is what you make it" is the opposite of (passively) following destiny.
"Life is what you make it" means you're in the driver's seat. You're responsible for the choices you make, and consequently the results of your choices.
This would be the philosophy of someone who is goal oriented, who sets out to do make his own way. It means that this person is a self-starter, who essentially "made" his life.

All the time life is presenting us with choices.........we have free will always to make the choice....although it may not always feel that way it is still true so it is the choices along the way that we make that makes life for us what it is today. I am talking of individuals.......although collecively there is also the ability for choice but always at the expense of the minority voter.

Life is what you make it! ... you hold the cards to your life you get dealt whatever you get it's up to you on how you play them. Don't blame the world or other people life is what you make only you determine what your life will be ... if you get a bad hand you don't have to continue playing fold and move on.
In the end we can only try to play the hand we are dealt! ... smile and the whole world will smile with you.

i do not believe in destiny ot faith. all that happens to you are the consequences of what you do and what you want. life is in your hands because god wanted it to be. so you have to take advantage of that. do what you wanna do don't let nobody tell u what u're supposed 2 do.rock on.peace.
