I'm comparing too similar computer models with different processor :

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (2x 1.86 GHz, Level 2 cache 2 x 2 MB, 1066 MHz)

and

- Intel Pentium D Processor 950 Dual Core (2 x 3.40 GHz, Level 2 cache 2 x 2 MB, 800 MHz)

Which is better ???

The dual core pentiums (Pentium D 8xx, 9xx) Suk balls. They run reallly hot and are slow as turtles. The Core2Duo on the other hand, are VERY fast. Dont get sucked into the Megahertz Myth, mghz, ghz dont mean ANYTHING between different generation of processors. (Ie 3.4ghz pentiumD940 is SLOWER than 1.86ghz Core2Duo E6300) Ghz doesnt mean anything, thats just one part of a processor and it doesn't reflect overall performance. Think of it as digging a hole really quickly with a spoon vs digging slowly with a shovel. The shovel is going slower, but itz getting more work done! The Core2Duo processors are the fastest on the market currently so if your planning on getting a new computer, Core 2 Duo is the way to go!

The processors that you are talking about are virturally equal if you think about the time and technelogical advances between them coming out. But considering the 1066 MHZ against 800 MHZ, you should go for the Core 2 Duo. Also keep in mind that only one type of processor can defeat a Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Duo Extreme, the Xeon processor. The Xeon processor is a server made processor designed for intense databasing and processing and is two seperate processors. A single Xeon will match a Core 2 Duo Extreme but 2 XEON processors being used for a desktop will give more than any thing from Intel or AMD. As far as I know, the idea for desktop duo Xeon processors(2 individual processors instead of one processor with two clumped in) is used by apple in the FASTED APPLE EVER featuring 2 woodcrest Xeon processors and 16 GB RAM

well intel Core 2 duo is the latest model that produce by intel, and it is much better then the pentium D processor. Both of them are dual core and core 2 duo is a new design. It is almost the fastest processor on the destop market. Price wise the Core 2 duo is leading on the performance/price market. Try looking around and you will find out. I had a pentium D, AMD x2 and now i got a core2duo. The core 2 duo is the best i been using where it converting movie files the fastest. Make a choise. Btw they both are almost equal and core2 duo run cooler.

The Pentium D is the last of the Netburst architecture chips. The Netburst architecture allowed for high clock speeds but had a lot of disadvantages mainly due to a longer pipeline. The Core 2 Duo is based on an older architecture that incorporates some new changes. The Core 2 Duo is a lot faster.

architecture. the core 2 duo is a completely diff architecture from the pentium D.
u wouldn't need to know the details unless u are really interested in such tech stuffs
essentially, the core 2 duo is much better price/perf wise
