Looking at the situation at Real Madrid, they desperately need to win something. They have not won anything for years.
If buying a near retirement player could hugely boost their chances of winning something & possibly spark a revival. It's worth it.

You have to make a difference between Clubs and the World Cup. Although 33 years of age may be considered old for a World Cup at Club level is not as physically intense and demanding.
33 years old is a perfect age for a defender like Cannavaro, still lots of energy and by now he has gained plenty of experience. Experience is the greatest asset of a defender. Defenders and goal keepers get better as they age.
Real Madrid made a great deal by getting Cannavaro to reinforce it's weakest spot, the defense, plus he knows very well his coach Capello (who also just left Juventus)

He' s going to have to find new ways to defend, his acrobatics like jumping 3 feet up in the air won't work much longer at his age. We saw the friendly against Real Salt Lake where he just fell flat on his back while landing on the ground. Ouch... I 'm all for Real Madrid to win.
Mujahid is right the jersey number "5" should have been retired. It's not like we don't have an unlimited amount of numbers...

They will be very close. I still think that Barca have the edge because they are such a well coped team. However, I don't think that all these superstar signings in Madrid will be a repeat of the Galacticos. I think this team will bring the Real Madrid that everyone knows back to their place in history. It will be close. Very close.

He is not starting a new career, he is finishing his career. He is a proven world class player with ambitions to win the champions league once more so that would be reason enough to move to Real.
Age should not come into it when he is turning in performances like he was in the world cup.

Have to admit that I like when he's older. he'll do just fine. I used to hate him in the beginning of 2006 WC. But now I like him very much. Nice eyes; only prob is he's too short

No, the playing time for a star for Real Madrid is 2 possibly 3 years and Fabio is at his peak, so the timing is right.

Since he's still going to be a defender, his age is still fine for his position, and besides, he's still a great footballer at the moment.

Thats rite.Morover Cannavaro has been given the NO.5 shirt. Before it was Zizou's No at RM.Isnt that really bad.He can never be like Zizou. He can never hav Zizou's talents and Zizou's great personality.I dont think he can contribute much to Real Madrid.Zizou's abscence in the Real Madrid team is evident in their matches these days. They r really in need of Zizou.
Zizou ROCKS!
