The three "new" planets are Ceres (the biggest Mars-Jupiter asteroid), Charon (satellite of Pluto - the interpretation now is that Pluto/Charon is a double planet), and "Xena" or 2003 UB313, the new object that has been found to be bigger than Pluto. Of course they are not new. They are all 4.6 billion years old - they are only new to us.

Actually, there aren't 3 "new" planets. There are somewhere around 46. The official definition is that it orbits around the Sun, with gravity powerful enough to make it into a sphere, and that it not orbit another object, with the interpretation being that it orbits that object if the center of mass is within the globe of that other object. This means that sooner or later, they will have to declare that the Easter Bunny, Orcus, Santa, Varuna, Ixion, Quaoar, Sedna, and a whole host of other Kuiper Belt objects are planets. The discoverer of "Xena" (Brown) said that the definition of planet the IAU came up with implies that there are 53 planets.

Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt that orbits the sun between Mars and Jupiter; Charon, once considered Pluto's moon but now described as its companion in a "double planet" system; and 2003 UB313, currently Xena, larger-than-Pluto object far beyond the orbit of all the other planets.
