I live in Miami Beach and have firsthand experience of all the oceanfront hotels here.

First, the hotels on Ocean Drive are oceanfront, but there is a street and a park that divides the hotels and the beach.

Inexpensive Ocean Drive hotels (that I would feel comfortable staying at) include: Colony, Cardozo, and the Park Central.

For true oceanfront hotels, where the beach is located out the back door, you must find a hotel on Collins Avenue.

The oceanfront hotels on Collins I would recommended include the Richmond and the Shelborbne.

If you want to go 7 miles North, you could also stay at the Alexander, and the Seaview.

Note: not all hotels on Collins are oceanfront. Check to make sure you hotel is.

Just got back, finding a beach place, that has free parking in a great area, not easy. Alot of construction, 35 story plus condos going up, noise!!! Go further north, Ft Lauderdale, Hollywood, nicer.

We stayed at the holiday inn in South Beach. It had a pool and the beach was just a few steps away. They provided us with chairs, umbrellas, and towels. We definitely plan to return.
