Hi, i'm a single mom with a 2 1/2yr old boy who is potty trained but refuses to use his potty outdoors - since we live in the country & are out a lot this has become a problem. If he needs to go he just lies on his front & pees his pants.
I know this may sound wierd, but as a mom how can i teach him to pee on a tree for example?
Any advice would be welcome
lol. Laura xxx.

Tell him before you go out that you have a treat for him if he pees up a tree rather than in his pants, maybe you could try using a stone or a leaf as a target and encourage him to go before his bladder is full so you are in control of where and when. You could make a game of finding the best sort of tree or spot to pee in too. I can't stop my son dropping his pants and going anywhere! Oh for a happy medium!!

Little Boy Peeing Outside

Hi single mom

I dont have any child rearing experience (as of yet)
but my suggestion would to maybe try bring the OUTDOORS INDOORS to him...
For example, get a small tree that fits in a large pot and bring it into your home...and teach your child to pee on the tree while INDOORS... this will familiarise him with the notion of weeing on a tree.... then gradually start to introduce him o the outdoors... maybe move the tree onto the porch, then while walking in the outdoors...if he needs to wee, take him to a nearby tree and show him how similar it is to the one he pees on at home...

Hope this helps abit....

That is odd. Most little boys are quite impressed when they first get to "take a whiz in the woods." You could try some kind of reward combined with praise and encouragement, just like you likely did when you were first training him.

when my son was little he was raised in the country we taught him to pee outside because we had a similar problem..teaching him to pee on a tree is ok or behind it .make a deal out of it if he does pee outside as praising him..eventually when he is older he will start coming inside to pee..

Can you keep something in your pocket like chalk so that you can make a bulls eye on the tree or rock. Boys like to "take aim" at things.

We also live in a rural area, so I just made a game out of it - have him aim for a leaf or rock or something.
