I would have to say that because the majority always dictates to the minority what their rights and privileges are. Look at this country 60 years ago. It was illegal for different races to intermarry. Blacks and whites couldn't get married. That seems incredibly ridiculous now they they would tell people who they could and couldn't marry, right?
Don't worry, people will eventually become more tolerant once they realize that there is nothing to fear in gay marriage. They are victims of political hate mongering. Before the 2004 election, I doubt that most people besides gay people had a strong opinion about gay marriage.
Once people realize that they actually know someone who is gay (it's supposed to be about 13% of the population), that's around I 1 in 10 people, they will be more tolerant. I don't know about you, but I know more than 10 people. I have know numerous gay people in my life, and they were nothing like the stereotypes. Once people figure that out...It's easier for people to hate and fear what they don't know. In fact, it's human nature to do so.
Religious wackos leading the charge to any sort of political victory is also a fairly recent development, but what do you expect when you have a religious wacko running the country?

Nobody can dictate how you live your life, thats up to you. My personal belief is that marriage is between a man and a woman. It's the way I was raised and the way I'm raising my children. Now the other side of the coin, my brother IS gay. He has a partner who he's been with for 4 years and is very happy. They have not discussed any plans for marriage or any type of commitment ceremony. My brother says that he doesn't want to go to a state he doesnt live in and be married by a judge, he doesn't need a ring to be who he is and have a monogamous commitment. I guess my point is...why do gay people think they can tell me what they think marrige should be.

im a christian, and although ive read what the bible says about gay people and how wrong it is, i also know god said that we arent to judge each other.. the god i believe in, believes in love and being good to each other, and i have no problem with gay relationships as long as they arent hurting anyone i dont see what the big deal is, Same as i feel about straight couples, im only against any couple or religion that is about hurting people.. I have no right to judge u, thats god's job, and i do think although it wouldnt be proper to marry in a church since it is against the bible that u should atleast be able to get married at the court house just to make it a legally bound union.. so not all straight people think they can dictate.. i say more power to u if u can find someone to love for the rest of ur life..

It's not straight people per se, it's the governmental or cultural authorities that set boundaries for ALL of us. You want gay marriages and feel you should have the right to marry same sex. Polygamists feel they should be able to have more than one wife/husband if they can support them. Some religions do not permit birth control nor abortion leaving women with no rights over their own bodies. Feeling oppressed? Join the club.
Things change slowly while the majority of people get used to an idea or become more open-minded about it. In the meantime, you have options - go to a state that supports civil unions, use your vote to make a difference if you don't want to do that, go to a country where what you want is legal and acceptable, change your religion... or just wait. Don't blame straights, don't blame God.

Why aren't there any special flags for straight people? Why aren't there any straight pride parades? Why don't you see any special treatment of straight people? You don't see straight people ramming their cause down the throats of people that otherwise don't really care. Sure there are religious freaks that want to blame it on God, but as the ex wife of a gay man, whom I am very good friends with, it is a choice. He chose to live out his lifestyle, it is a choice. According to him, nothing infuriates him more than those that think being gay is a race, an ethenticity. It is not. He is gay, he does not believe in gay marriage and he's never blamed "us straights" for banning gay marriage.
Stop trying to be an exclusivity. Just be a person.

Get real princess !!! If 2 homos can marry what's next ??? A woman and a donkey ???? A man and a goat ???? I'm not a religious person by any means and gay marriage is just a joke. You CHOOSE to be gay and marriage is for a normal relationship ( a man and a woman ).

I don't know. I am not a lesbian but I think that people who are straight should not be able to say "no you can't get married" I think its wrong that they won't let them and its not fair. Its the same thing as men telling women that the have to carry a baby that they don't want to. What if they had to carry the baby?
I don't think people can open their minds enough to think about things from other peoples point of view. Its sad that they are that close minded!

why does one person from a particular group make assumptions about all of another group??? all straight people per se, don't feel the way you think we do. the type of people you are talking about are called by other names and none of them because they are straight. i would call them narrow minded, judgmental, or perhaps just scared of people who are different. this straight lady would love to see anyone who loved one another... be at peace with the world living with the same value and rights as anyone else, not being afraid of being judged. so please don't lump me into that group of dictating straight people and i won't lump you into any category either.

I think that a lot of the people who are against are afraid of it and don't know how to deal with it. Most people who are straight and have open minds don't have a problem with it so i believe its a fear thing

Why do people that don't murder feel they can dictate to murderers about life and rights?
Why do people that don't steal feel they can dictate to thieves about personal belongings and rights?
(By the way, God doesn't hate you or me.)
