There are two points that come to mind when trying to answer your question.
1- Human rights issue in the Middle East is the last excuse left to use (by the current administration) to gain public support for the war in Iraq and to establish a new foothold in that region after the fact that all the other excuses used earlier on in the conflict proved to be false allegations.
2-I do not believe that we have the right to advocate human rights to the world when we allowed non-whites to vote, only, 40 years ago. "You cannot preach what you do not practice" our society is still struggling with racial profiling, racism etc...
