Do you agree with that age limit? Why/why not?

I live in Virginia and have ties to the juvenile justice system here. The "age of accountability" is at the descretion of the court. If a kid is charged with something considered small like vandelism, they treat it like the minor crime that it is no matter the age. Assault or murder is discretionary as well, but as a rule, the kids get refered up to adult court.

Do I agree. Yes. By & large, the crimes that kids commit are becoming more serious.

It depends on where you are from but in Kentucky children are held accountable at the age of 10. Now if they are being tried as an adult the age is 16. I don't agree with it because there are some children younger than that commiting crimes that would be considered a felony if they were an adult. They are not being taught anything if these infractions are overlooked.

Here in the U.S. most children fall into two categories.
Between ages 1-12 they are mostly under parental control and
parents do the punishing. After that they become the courts problem. It depends on the offense. Stealing candy at a
young age the owners of the store will usually hand the culprits over to their parents and the parents have to pay restitution.
We have juvenile courts for kids between the ages of 8-15.
After that, kids can be tried as an adult.I'm not completely sure about the ages but that is the court system here.

In the State of Oregon, it's 15 years old. That's way too old. A 10 year old can pull the trigger. I'd make it 7 years old. At that age children know right from wrong.

just to add to Big Mouth's answer...

One reason why most 15 year olds (and 16, and 17 year olds) are tried as adults is because when you're 18, your juvenille record gets wiped clean.

They don't want teenagers to act with impunity knowing that they can do whatever they want - and then when they're 18 they've got a clean slate.
