Are you thinking of the ringneck snake? only the bottom of the tail is orange, but they display it to confuse predators.

Many baby snakes hvae orange or yellow tails. The majarity of these snakes are pitvipers but few non-venomouse snakes also have this trait.

Don't know where you live, but if this color is more yellow than orange, be careful. Newborn & juvenile Norther Copperheads have a bright yellow tail, so if this is a small snake, give it a wide berth. If it's a young copperhead, it's venomous & should be left alone.
