As with all computer purchase decisions it depends on the usage.
If you dont need to be portable then you should go with a pc, it will be cheaper in comparison and the parts are more robust.
If however you need portability of all your computer stuff then you should go for the laptop obviously.
If it is just the files you need to transfer you would be best with a pc and a high capacity usb stick which would be the best of both worlds.
Computer shops will help but bear in mind the more you spend the more profit they make .. so they will probably steer you towards a laptop.

Well if you are planning to take it places with you, you can. But a big computer you can't take it all over with you. But a laptop is really good for people who travel alot.

Its basically depends on what are using it for?
If you are going for gaming.. then head for a desktop computer.. Nothing can compared to the speed, and stability.. Notebooks is bad in games especially the keyboards and etc.. graphics capability in notebook is bad too..
if you are into video editing or graphics editing, 3D, then dessktop still the best.. :)
If you are using it for work or travelling, then go for a notebook.

For mobile use or if you just want to do the occasional email, browsing and word processing choose a Laptop. For serious stuff, multimedia and gaming, choose a Desktop.

Depends on what you want it for.
I would recomend a Desktop machine as its easier to upgrade and fix. Also you get better specs for it like bigger hard drives.
