In 3 hours there are 180 minutes.
Let x = number of minutes spent on each non-math question
Let 2x = number of minutes spent on each math question
150x + 50(2x) = 180
150x + 100x = 180
250x = 180
x = 0.72
50(2(0.72)) = 50(1.44) = 72
Students should spend 72 total minutes on the mathematics portion of the examination.

Let x = time allotted for each math problem
x/2 = time allotted for each other question
50x = total time for the math part
150x/2 = 75x = total time for the rest of the exam
50x + 75x = 3hours
125x = 3 hours
25x = 0.6 hours
50x = 1.2 hours = 72 minutes
Therefore, 1.2 hours OR 72 minutes should be spent for the mathematics problems.

There are 180 minutes.
There are 150 non-math questions.
The 50 math questions are the equivalent (in time) as 100 of the others.
That would mean that you would spend 180/(150+100) = .72 minutes per other question. .72 * 150 = 108 minutes. Leaving 72 minutes for all math question.

let the time taken to solve one other question be=x
therefore time taken to solve one maths question=2x
therefore:
2x X 50 is total time for the maths problems and
x X 150 is the total time for the other questions
hence
100x+150x=250x is the total time
hence 250x=180(3 hrs=180mins)
x=180/250
therefore
18/25 X 2 X 50 is the time for the maths problems
hence time required for maths problems is 72 mins

Suppose x is the value for solving each question of other questions.
So , 2x is the value for solving each question of mathes.
So, time for 150 other questions =150x
And time for solving 50 mathes questions is=2x*50=100x
So, total time for solving 200 questions=150x+100x=3 hours.
so, 250x=3 hours.
x=3/250=.012hrs
=.012*60 minutes
=0.72 minutes.
Now,time required for solving mathes questions=100x=100*.72
=72 minute
time required for solving mathes questions=1.2 HOURS.

seems ur sitting for a state level exam, psc or upsc?
anyways, you can first work out the gk portion, which will be easier and faster solved, and then concentrate on the maths portion.you can take out 1 1/2 hrs for maths, as gk will be quite easy and can be solved in 1-1 1/2 hrs. all the best
