I had to think about this one for a few minutes, as I have been asked some very interesting questions by very young children.
I would have to say the best one was from my friend's daughter when she was 4 years old. We were having a date (Happy Meals from McDonald's and playing in the park, just the two of us) and she suddenly looked up at me and asked, "Why do people do bad things and then not want to be punished for them? If I do something that you or Mommy or Daddy or the policeman tells me not to do, I know I am going to be punished. But why do grownups do really bad things and then think they don't have to be punished for them? I am sure their Mommy or Daddy or the policeman told them not to do those bad things, but they do them anyway."
I had absolutely no good answer for that, because I know that most people who do bad things do, indeed, know that they are doing something wrong. They also, nearly always, think that they should not be punished for their actions. How do you answer that question for a 4 year old girl when you cannot answer it for yourself as an adult?
And can I just say, I love Princess Tinkle's story. The story is great, but what's even greater is the response from the doctor. Why aren't there more doctors like that these days? I miss those old gentlemen who really cared about their patients and who had time to answer questions, even from little girls!

This happened when my cousin was about 5...
He was outside playing, and it started thundering real loud. It was scaring him, because our area didn't get many thunderstorms. He looked at me with those puppydog eyes and asked, "How do I turn it off?"
Not so much perplexing as cute.

When my daughter was 3 she asked me 'How did I get to be here?'
I was thinking fast for an answer when she said 'Did you buy me from a shop?'
My answer then was 'Yes! Yes we did.'
This worked out quite well as whenever she was naughty I would say 'I will take you to the shop and swap you.'
It always worked! :)
