Nixon, for all his faults, was still a statesman. Bush is simply impersonating a president and is dangerously out of his depth.

"Only Nixon could go to China..."

Nixon brought a truce to Vietnam because Kissinger was successful in his secret negotiations with China in making them into an ally. With China as our ally, there was no need to continue supporting South Vietnam and keep the communist domino effect from happening. The truce provided a means for the U.S. get out of the war with some dignity, but did nothing to stop it. South Vietnam declared war with North Vietnam less than a year after the truce and the rest is history.

George Bush does not have a China or North Vietnam to negotiate peace with, because the insurgests don't represent a country. They're just a bunch of Arabians that hate America and Westerners, and will kill their own people without remorse to prove their point. Even if Bush had someone to negotiate peace with, history could repeat itself by igniting another war. The way things look right now, the peace negotiations might get bypasses and we're going to jump right into another war.

Read the pentagon papers !The publication of the Pentagon Papers helped fuel the debate over the wisdom of U.S. involvement in Vietnam; however, most observers agree that the publication of the papers did not do injury to the national security of the United States.

The Pentagon Papers case proves the value of the First Amendment, says Jim Goodale, general counsel to The New York Times during the time of this landmark decision. "It serves as a shield against an overzealous government." Daniel Ellsberg is a former American military analyst employed by the RAND Corporation who precipitated a national firestorm in 1971 when he released the Pentagon Papers, the US military's account of activities during the Vietnam War, to The New York Times. The release awakened the American people to a systematic program of organized deception carried out by the Pentagon against the population to continue the Vietnam War. It is happening again with BUSH !

Vietnam was about minor simple political ideologies. The current situation throughout the world is about the number one reason man has gone off to kill man throughout human history: religion. All religions spout off about kindness and caring, but religion is the reason there has ALWAYS been some conflict somewhere on this planet since man first invented the business of religion. Look at the Crusades. Christians thought they were right since they were going to reclaim the "Holy Land" in the name of God. The Muslims thought they were right since they were trying to hold onto the "Holy Land" in the name of Allah. Either way, the intent was to kill person on the other side. Just how is that right again?
Do not get me wrong, I truly and firmly believe this complex, amazing, incredbile, yet beautiful and elegant thing we call the universe HAD to have a creator. But, there hasn't been a religion invented by mere mortals yet to practice the right religion.

He is not fighting a nation. He is fighting an idea. The North Vietnamese didn't want to destroy America, they just wanted us to leave. The Terrorists don't have central leadership, and they are driven by an ideology of blind hatred. No truce or accord will ever appease them.

This is really comparing apples and oranges.

Because he doesn't want to. As long as there is a war on, the price of oil remains high and the profit from the Bush family oil company is maximised. Business 101.

Who does he negotiate with? Hmm?

We are there with the support of the iraq government, the wars over basicly our soldiers are police for what would happen if the gangs in Los Angeles had access to explosives and Rocket Propelled grenades.

Terrorists are just murders who think on a bigger scale.

Truce with whom? There are numerous armed groups - some populated with non-Iraqis - fighting US and UK forces, new Iraqi army, and amongst themselves.
