To become a US president you should be a WASP (White Anglo-Saxon protestant). The only person which broke this implicit law is John Kennedy as he was a Catholic. I don't have to tell you what happened to him!!!

The ethnic argument is so flawed, most Hispanics are classed as white to help shore up white numbers, even though most of them have native American ancestry, especially the Mexicans and Central Americans. The very way the ethnic question is structured in the US is based on racism.
So in reply to your question, YES, the US is Racist. If not, why do even white people segregate into "ethnic" neighbourhoods eg Polish, Russian, Irish, WASP &c. Yes you are a racist country. But then again, most countries are.
In New Zealand, we also have race problems to a degree, but we have had a deputy primeminister who is Maori, even though Maori People are only 15% of the Population. Race is not necessarily the most important factor. We had a Jewish Primeminister in the 19th Century!
Our last two Primeminister's have been women. Why has the USA not had a woman president? Woman are a majority of the population.
Simple answer. The USA is backward and reactionary, racist, sexist and politically inept.
The rest of the Western world is culturally way ahead of the USA, which is hampered by an electorate which includes 70 million rightwing Christian fundamentalists and 5 million rightwing Jewish fundamentalists, neither of which realise that their flawed beliefs are holding back their emotional, spiritual and societal development.

That is traced to elitism not racism, ANYONE with enough money to throw away has a shot, (supposedly).
I would prefer seeing a blue collar person as president myself, As long as we continue to elect Presidents who can fund the largest campaign the longer the non elite of America will be unrepresented!

Demographics are the reason. These groups are splintered and even put together, cannot have a majority at this time. What you need is an outstanding candidate from any of these communities who is head and shoulders above other candidates. That appears unlikely in the near future.

Actually the opposite is true.
To be elected president in America you have to convince MANY ethnic groups that you would be their best choice.
Very few ethnic candidates know how to bridge that gap.
The fault is the candidate's, not America's.
