I am British, and I am a nationalist. I am appalled at what the current government is doing, both in this country, and across the world.

The United States is the leading nation currently committing brutalities and injustices, yet Washington is home to a government which claims to be the ultimate moral authority on the globe. While invading and occupying nations which posed no threat to them, slaughtering innocent civilians, and torturing suspected enemies, the United States continues to mouth empty platitudes about spreading freedom and democracy, pompously lecture other nations on human rights, and hypocritically determine which nations are too “evil” to be trusted with nuclear technology.

You can be a patriot and believe that what your country is doing is wrong. As a patriot you should point it out at every opportunity and take whatever legal action you can to stop actions your country takes in your name with which you don't agree.
You can be patriotic without being a government doormat. A patriot stands up for their country and puts their country's wrongs to right!

Patriotic (and "chauvinist") means blindedly approving whatever the Great Leader says. Or so it seems.
In this era of mass migration and dual nationality and women's equality (leading to dual nationality) it is no longer possible to demand patriotism from everybody. Everybody is a potential fifth columnist or Manchurian Candidate.

To answer your question, enlightened and educated Britains and Americans generally do not agree with what their governments are doing. Unfortunately, our democracies have been hijacked by criminal organizations and their nominees. One day soon, justice will prevail.

Why not?
If tomorrow the US and UK stopped involvement in all international issues, would the world be safer of more dangerous? Would Iran play nice? Would Israel be attacked?
Instead of hating the actions of these nations maybe you should consider what a lack of action would do. If the US became more isolationist in its policy, the world would soon cry out for us to act. It happened in World War 1 and 2.
Think about it.

Very good point.
Is patriotism the willful acceptance of mass slaughter in the name of money?
One day I hope the world will be ruled by the peaceful. As Ghandi said:
"An eye fo an eye makes the whole world blind."
True words.
Peace...

I'm embarassed to say I'm American and I am ashamed of our leaders. I can't imagine how anyone can fall for the lies they are being spoon-fed.
