Basic requirment

1: Work Hard
2: Pay attention in class and fully straight attendent.

Extra Action:

1: Keep close relationship with the professor
2: Always gathering with the classmate to get the updated news or rumours about study and homework

Only fulfil the basic perfectly is just enough to get 3.5, do some extra action plus will attain 4.0. That's what's the different between 3.5 & 4.0

Work very hard. Study. Some people use uppers, but I don't recommend that, because you could end up in rehab. That will definitely hurt your GPA.

You know what? You are not defined by little numbers on pieces of paper. Unless you have some kind of calling to go to Columbia Medical School or Harvard Law, relax. Even then, they'll probably be as influenced by what you do for your community and your extra-curricular clubs.

Enjoy your adolescence. You only get to do it once. Do the best you can, and always be able to look yourself in the mirror. A 4.0 does not guarantee you a nice life, or even a happy one.

Lots of good ideas here.

One I haven't seen but is very important is to study the course syllabus, see what's coming up, and do the required reading ahead of the class or lecture. This will enable you to have a better idea of what's happening in class, and will also enable you to ask better questions or show your teacher/professor that you're on top of whatever's happening in class. Trust me, you will stand out, and your class notes will be more focused.

Another suggestion, if, when you're working on an assignment, you're having trouble or don't understand, go and ask for help right away. Tell your teacher/professor you want to do well, but you need his/her help understanding THIS better. I went from having no clue in a class that I HAD to pass to getting an A, using these techniques.

Find someone else who's taken the class and ask what kind of questions the teacher/professor asks, and how he/she grades. This will help you have an idea on how and what to study. One of the weirdest things I learned this way that I never would have thought of was my professor always asked who the authors of the text were, who published it, and when.

Get a study buddy from one of the best students in the class and go over what has been covered, most important ideas, and possible exam questions.

Maybe the most important of all is to keep current on assignments, and work on papers while you're doing your classwork, so you won't have to worry about papers AND studying for exams at the last minute.

Colleges don't only look at your GPA...you need to find outside activities that you enjoy, that could be interesting to a potential college of interest.

Good luck!

It is important to maintain a balance between your school life and your non-school life. It is also important to be proactive instead of being reactive. Most college level courses require paper writing, set a goal to have it completed well before the professor requires it. This will give you time to revise it if needed. Remain in contact with your professors but be careful to not become an annoyance. If you get less than perfect on your work, ask for extra credit.

I may give you an answer off the beaten path........My daughter maintained a weighted GPA of 4.2. She always did her homework, and projects, and any extra credit. She became part of the honor programs, and clubs. She took all the honor classes.

My precious baby is now a junior at UC Berkeley. Doubting issues.........I am telling you, my daughter has done this all through determination.

The fact you say you want to do your very best means(or at least indicates). you will be unstoppable. Wanting to do your very best is the ingredient to accomplishment. Good job, sweetie!

I have to add this.............my daughter is now the entertainment director of her co-op. She and I had many fights of her being a PARTY-ier!

I saw the other answers about being only about study. I think my daughter is succeeding, because she has learned to balance(keyword- balance). studies and social life!

What you need most is focus - on studies. You need to go beyond giving the right answer but make it the best. Work in group with students who aspire for high grade. They will both challenge and help you. Forget your social life when the school is in session.

study, don't cram, have a good study method (flash cards, re-writing your notes over and over until you get it, whatever works for you), don't do the all-night study sessions, don't use caffeine pills or red bull or whatever - they will make you less able to focus when test-taking time comes along,
