Why do they swab a persons arm before administrating the lethal injection?

This is a standard medical procedure. If they deviate from this standard, then there's no longer a standard, -there's two different methods based on some other circumstances, - like whether the patient is supposed to live or die.

For the health care industry, they have standard procedures all over the place. This keeps life simple.

Now when I go into the hospital, - I want this standard procedure. I don't want some health care practitioner to get confused lump me in with the other group that got executed that morning.

It is because, even the death-row inmates have a right. Right to die with sanitary methods.

So swabbing them before the lethal injection is a nice way of saying, "we care."

liability. a case could be made that the executed was subjected to undue suffering brought on by unsanitary injection. the state and the administrator of the injection could then be held at fault.

Good Point! They have probably been sued by someones family over unsanitary injection methods in the past somewhere.

No one so far has mentioned the possibility of a last minute reprieve. If that is the case and the execution does not go forward, they better be sure they did not subject the convict to any chance of infection, etc.

Hippocratic Oath "Do no harm", Medical personnel insert the IV's and pronounce death. The executioner is not an MD.

even though they are going to die there is ethical guidelines that the state must follow while administering the shot.

Good question, but it is the wrong one. The question is, why does our government, who deems itself a modern and good society, kill its citizens for any reason at all?
