Home or residential real estate records may be held for viewing at your local city or town hall. You can also research such information at your public library: if the library has a PC, this can be done far faster and easier.

When you bought your home your lawyer should have gotten you a history (title search) of everyone who owned your home prior to you. That should be a good start. Take it to the public library and they should be able to help you out.

Title search like the title companies do. That is a standard service with a fixed fee for your area.
