read alot of books or shows in the language you wish to expand your vocabulary on .write down words or phrases which you don't know in a notebook and look them up in the dictionary. don't write their meaning in your notebook but try to remember them when you are free ( when traveling on a bus, waiting for a show etc) and make your own sentences from them. routinely go through these new words that you have learned in your notebook once or twice a week so you won't forget them. if you come across them again ( from a reliable source, e.g novels, news articles, educational tv shows etc , quote them in their full sentences inside your book so you will know and remember how others use them.

Read newspapers; you will see a lot of words you dont know and since its a newspaper, some of those words will be reused a lot of times. Constant repetition with whats relevant will help you memorize better. Spending 10 minutes on one word is useless if you dont konw how to use it or never see it again. And for christ sake, dont be like some people that read the dictionary.

Take a dictionary and open it at random. Pick 10 words and write them down next to their definitions. Study them over and over. Create sentences with them and write those down too.
Do 10 words a day or 10 words a week, just go at a comfortable pace for you.

And for each new word that you master, begin using it when you speak. Also, read more novels, books, pamphlets or anything and everything. The more contact we have with words, the better we become with them.

well, you can read newspapers, magazines & journals.
When you come across a word that's unfamiliar to you,
try to look it up on a dictionary. try also to read a book
once every 4 months (if the schedule permits).
That should do it....

try also to read the dictionary once or twice a day
and memorize at least 5 words.

what i do to memorize things is that i linked them to some cmose events e.g
when i study i listen to music and i remind words by singing the song (i remember what i was learning) sounds silly but it works with me... i also do it with moments with peoples (a scent, a personn...) give it a go maybe it will work

or in a mor "serious" way you can write down the words you are learning and know them by heart (also tried it) it is said that when you keep writin words you'll end up remembering them unconsciously.... hope i helped :+)

I love those little word-a-day calendars. They're so much fun.

My mom told me about this German guy, who would put a book in his language next to a book in another language to figure them out. Then he would go to a part of town where people were from there to practice pronunciation and grammar. He became a famous archaeologist, I think.

read a book, and everytime you don't understand a word, look it up in the dictionary and then write out the word and definition. also read the newspaper or magazine, and do the same thing.
