Just saw the movie V for Vendetta last weekend in which the hero tries to blow up the English Parliament as a symbolic act to bring about change in the fascist government in his country(it's no surprise he gives it away in the beginning)in honour of Guy Fawkes. Since we are slipping into racial hatred and big brother law it has led me to ask: What historical feat would you be willing to undertake to bring change to society(constructive or destructive)? please be as specific as possible

Good question. However, violence only breeds violence. I would advocate and act like Mathatma Gandhi. He is a peaceful man who brought down the British control of India. That's power!!!

I would like to abolish the monarchy. I really can't see any moral justification for keeping them on - they're parasites on the economy, they accede to a position of authority purely through birthright rather than working to earn it, and they maintain that position through social immobility and public apathy. Defenders of the monarchy say that they don't really cost that much - I think it might be £70 per capita per year, but then that's averaged out over the WHOLE population, it's more over the economically active. And given that this adds up to millions, think what this money could do for the NHS, or what their houses could do for the homeless - i.e. people who NEED that money! The other common argument is that they bring in tourists - but to paraphrase Mark Steel, nobody ever climbed to the top of the Eiffel Tower and said "well it's a lovely view, but the lack of a monarch spoils it somewhat".

It defies democratic logic to have a non-elected head of state, and it seems like a moral anomaly in the modern age to allow them to retain wealth, status and privilege, that OTHER PEOPLE have worked to earn for them.

As to what I'd do, I guess sign a petition, join a protest march? I'm not sure how to get started. I do realise lots of people complain and then don't do anything about it, and I acknowledge I'm no better. Hmmm... maybe I'll start a question on here...
