Every time you download or install a new game, application, or software update, you make changes to your computer. Sometimes that change may make your system unstable. Have you ever wanted to go back to the way it was? With System Restore, you can.

System Restore works a lot like the Undo command in Microsoft Word. You can use System Restore to remove any system changes that were made since the last time you remember your computer working correctly. System Restore does not affect your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e–mail) so you won't lose changes made to these files.

How does System restore work?

Windows XP periodically records a snapshot of your computer. These snapshots are called restore points. Windows XP also creates restore points at the time of significant system events (such as when an application or driver is installed) or you can create and name your own restore points at any time. If youâ€â„¢ve installed a program that has made your computer unstable, you can open system restore, choose a restore point, and return your computer to its previous stable state.

When you run System Restore, a calendar is displayed to help you find restore points. If you don't use your computer every day, some days might not have any restore points. If you use your computer frequently, you might have restore points almost every day, and some days might have several restore points.

Use System Restore to undo changes youâ€â„¢ve made to your computer.

System restore is an option to recover the operating system mostly used in windows. When ever your system becomes corrupt you can restore it to an earlier date. It is necessary that on that earlier date you have created a restore point.
It is important because due to viruses or malicious softwares operating system might get faulty so one can use system restore to delete all files and content created after the date on which system restore point was created.

System restore is a tool that allows you to reload your operating system to a previous time where it was working properly. Its used when your Operating System is malfunctioning and you want to try to restore it to a time when it was working fine.

The malfunction might have been caused by virus, Trojans, spy-ware, worms or even hardware that you recently installed on the system.

You have to enable "system restore". It then creates "restore points". So in the event that you want to restore your system to a particular date that when everything was working fine, you just select that date and restore the system configuration to that date.

the system restore in Windows XP is there to help you re-configure your computer in the event of a crash or if you get errors during the login or boot up. This sometimes happen when you remove a 'vital' program by mistake or when one vital program gets corrupted.

The system restore will load the last know 'safe' configuration and everything should be back to normal (or at least allow you to back up all your data and re format your drive)

if you have a problem, like driver problem, virus problem or something like that, you can "restore" your system to an old state where everything worked.. theoratically a good thing, practically not working correctly (at least not with virus, they even use this to be "undeleteable")! make a restore point whenever you think your computer is working great...
