I'm at week 21 in my pregnancy. I am usually pretty fit and I eat healthy. Since I've been pregnant I've been eating significantly more than normal but I'm not really gaining weight! I've gained 5-8lbs during the past 5 months. I just have a tiny bump on my belly, but my baby is growing at a normal rate. I can feel him kicking all the time! I'm just worried I'm not growing enough compared to other women I see who claim to also be 5 months pregnant. Is is dangerous for my baby if I dont start putting on belly weight?

BTW, I'm living in Germany where my doctor speaks little english. I have to get most of my questions answered on-line. I worry that because the same doctor hasnt been tracking my weight they wouldnt know if there was a problem.

every women is different when it comes to how they carry their babies and how they gain weight during a pregnancy....
some women carry their babies more towards their back rather than towards the front (which causes the belly to pop out).
weight gain is also different for every woman. with my first pregnancy i only gain a total of 19 pounds and didn't have to wear maternity clothes until i was 6 months. my baby weighed 6.8 pounds and was perfectly healthy-she is now 7 years old. my last baby-i gained 25 pounds.
just keep eating healthy and as long as your doctor says you and the baby are doing fine-then no worries!! you'll start to put on more weight in the last 3 months of pregnancy when the baby starts to put on weight himself...
try not to worry so much-i think you're doing just fine. congratulations on your baby boy!!

I once saw a woman who was 8 months pregnant and had hardly any stomach at all! Do not worry about how big your stomach gets, women are all different and pregnant stomachs come in all sizes. With my first son I wasn't showing at all until about 5 months then all of a sudden like over night I had a nice ball there. It was amazing. I also did not gain hardly any weight during the first 5 months, I was very fit before getting pregnant and pretty skinny. It usually takes longer for a frst time mother to show rather than a second or third time one. Just try not to worry about the size of your stomach. You only need to gain about 20 to 25 pounds while you are pregnant and as long as you feel your baby kicking everyday there should not be a problem. Also make sure you are eating healthy and eating about 500 extra calories per day, you do not really need to eat like you are eating for 2 like alot of people say. Congrats and good luck with your baby!

Is this your first pregnancy? Often times with first pregnancies women tend to begin showing when they're a little further along than with subsequent pregnancies. Between 20-22 weeks the top of your uterus should come about to your belly button (if you press on your abdomen you should be able to feel it - round and hard). After that the top of your uterus should move about a centimeter a week. But all of this is just generalizations - all pregnancies are a little different. As long as your baby is doing well, that's all that matters. Don't stress out about gaining weight either - it's not usually recommended that women gain more than 25-30 lbs while they're pregnant anyway. And it shouldn't matter that you're not seeing the same doctor as long as you have your records they should be able to keep track of everything just fine.

I Think You Are Okay But If You Have Concerns Ask Your Doctor. If You Are Eating Right And Taking Good Care Of Yourself You Should Be Fine I Didn't Start Getting Really Big Until My 7th Month. Hope That Helped. Good Luck

My friend didn't show till she was 7 months. I started showing at the end of 6 months my first pregnancy and at 4 months my second. everyone is different if your Dr. isn't worried then you shouldn't be worried. I also wouldn't over eat to make the baby bigger the only one that will grow is you. I didn't gain a pound when i was pregnant. both my girls were small but not dangerously small my first was 6lb my second was 5 lb 13oz anyway do you really want to give birth to a 10 lb baby! the smaller the better(just remember your B/F isn't the carrying or birthing the baby.

Don't worry!
I am 35 weeks pregnant I've lost weight rather than gained it, I have a sticking out belly button and hardly no bump at all! Your the lucky one and I would do anything for your little bump!
I'm sure it isn't a problem. My baby is perfectly healthy and growing well and is a right little fidget bum!

Maybe you want to know what it's like to be pregnant, or have that baby bump so many mothers love. Maybe you need to play a pregnant woman in a film, or for a school project, but you aren't pregnant yourself. Whatever the reason, recreating pregnancy can be done in various ways but will also require focusing on more than just a bump, including walking carefully and "glowing

This book is a must read for any woman trying to get pregnant. I was devastated and so was my husband after being told by my fertility specialist at age 38 that I had no option but to consider adoption or donor eggs (according to my doctor I was out of eggs and gave me 4% chance of getting pregnant and a 2% chance of carrying a baby to full term). After much research and dozens of hours reading infertility related articles and posts online, I have found this book! I never believed in anything alternative to western medicine and thought all the other stuff like Chinese medicine was a hoax. But I was soon glad to be wrong as I followed step by step guidelines. After one month of trying I became pregnant and had a beautiful healthy boy. Nine months after that I did everything in the book again and after 2 months of trying I got pregnant again and gave birth to another perfect little boy. I would recommend anyone with an open mind to read this book. It just might be the answer to your prayers.
