Yes, promise rings are only used by children and really don't mean anything. Engagement rings are used by adults to signify their intent to engage in the contract of marriage.

Engagement rings signify an intent to marry. Promise rings signify an intent to be engaged. Promise rings are pretty much only given to teenagers by other teenagers (I've never heard of an adult with a promise ring) and in most cases don't actually result in an engagement or marriage.

A promise ring does not mean you are engaged to be married. It just means the guy really loves you and wants to marry you someday but there is no fixed date yet because either he can't afford to yet or he has to finish school or other commitments. A promise ring is smaller than the engagement ring and not a solitaire stone. It's a more expensive version of a fraternity pin
An engagement ring comes with a marriage proposal and is usually a solitaire diamond.

A promise ring just says some day possibly you're the one. An actual engagement ring says it's definite usually witihin 6 months or less you're getting married. BUT you're still able to break it off with either ring if it doesn't work out.

Yeah. A promise ring is what a guy gets a girl when he wants her to quit nagging him about "where the relationship is going" without truly making a big commitment. An engagement ring is what a guy gets a girl who has completely whipped him into submission (to marry, that is).

yes there is a difference.. a promise ring basically says your committed to one another.. where as a engagement ring tells people you are getting married and have found the one you want to be with for the rest of your life..
