As an American I think I should have the right to consume any substance I wish, as long as it does not harm another human bieng. I do not do drugs, or drink alcohol, I believe it is not good for your body. But, the government should not be able to control what goes into our body. Alcohol is legal, and it can kill you the first time you drink it. I am not saying from a car wreck or anything like that, I am talking about just drinking to much. Marijuana you can not die from it the first time consuming the substance. You can if it is laced with a more toxic substance. The government spends a lot of our money on ads that children do not even pay attention to. They show a drug user as a bad person, and someone who is not wise. Many Americans smoke marijuana and have good paying jobs, a nice car, a house, and have a beautiful family. What is so bad about them occasionaly consuming marijuana. I would like to hear everyones opinion on this, and please do not say it's illegal I know.

I would not allow my child to smoke a joint or drink, but I dont have a problem with them doing it at 18 when they are an adult. By the way, there wasn't enough space too add this is......If you can die for your country at 18 years old, you should be able too have a drink.

I think if anything the drug laws should be made tougher and enforced a lot more than they are now. The difference between alcohol and narcotics like marijuana, crack, etc. is that alcohol isn't always consumed with the intention of getting drunk, whereas drugs are used for the sole purpose of getting high. Basically what I mean is that drugs are always used to be abused and alcohol isn't.
Bilybob, I would like to know for what kind of drug charge you get 5 years minimum for the first offense, I would imagine it would have to be pretty bad to warrant that sentence. Secondly most people who have given the subject any thought realize that drugs will never be legalized in this country, the sole exception being marijuana and even that's a long shot. The governments war on drugs is largely ineffective because the laws against drug use and distrubution are not harsh enough to cause potential users to think twice about it. While it's true that people are going to do what they want regardless it's still imperative that something is done to try and limit drug use as much as possible.

your answer scares me. Do you even know what the law is for drug offenses? They have these things called manditory minimum sentences:
1st offense - 5 years
2nd offense - 10 years
and a mandatory life sentance if you have 2 prior convictions
meaning if you have been cought with drugs more than once, you will have spent 15 years of your life in prison. That doesn't seem a bit much? you think it needs to be more harsh than that?
marijuana was made illegal because of racist politicians. The drug law doesn't prevent people from doing what they want to do, people are going to do what they want to do regardless of what the laws say. This is why there are crime lords and drug lords that make millions of dollars a year. Laws put the power and money into the criminals hands and takes it out of the hands of good business owners.
coca-cola is the best example, they weren't criminals just good business people that made a product based off a drug(cocaine) that was legal at the time. now look at how big their comany is, lots of jobs for people. even though they don't put cocaine in their product anymore, I don't believe coca-cola would be here if it weren't for having legal drugs.
"the people should not be afraid of their government, the government should be afraid of their people" - V
If all the people in the united stated decided one day that they didn't like the government anymore, they could shut it down, by simply stop going to work. If noone went to work the country would stop functioning. it's about time the government did what the people want.
fact - most peoples opinion about drugs or laws in general is put there by the government. meaning you didn't make your own opinion about the law. you think it's bad because the government said it was.

I agree with you completely. I have smoked marijuana for many years and I am not dead yet. I have a good job a good home and nice things. I admit I have tried just about every drug there is and I still consider myself a productive member of society. Instead of spending money on anti-drug laws, the government should be spending money on more important things like education, homelessness, aids, and other ills of society.

I do agree with you, but do feel the Govt do have a right to its citizens welfare too, as it is going to be looking after them if they cannot look after themselves. I think responsibility is a better term. If the citizens know hoiw not to abuse the rights given to them, it is fine. But if persistent abuses come in, then the Govt has to exercise its rights.
You say marijuana is good, maybe it is to you. Like smoking? But can you do it responsibly withoout affecting the person next to you? Can you say you will stay sane and in control of your activities after consumption of your rights?
I do see some irony in what you are saying, about your right to marijuana but not establishing where it is responsible to do so without affecting another one.
The money spent on advertisement is probably less than what they are to spend on rehabilative care for its citizens who insist on exercising their rights even if they know it is illegal.

I like this. If you are pro choice, Then you are pro drug legalization. Otherwise your a hypocrite.
I agree completely. It is unamerican. It is not helping anyone. It is costing us millions in dollars, thousands of lives, and countless people are being thrown into jail.
While, when it was legal it didn't cost millions, It didn't kill thousands and people didn't go to prison for using or selling drugs.
Who's it really helping? Criminals. They are the only people who benefit from prohibition.
Also, on another note, the CIA is the biggest drug cartel in America.

Oh sure they could desire to , esp easy and organic drugs like marijuana , it is going to be human beings options in the event that they elect to drug themselves , yet crack , heroin , cocaine and all those form of medicine are very undesirable if taken greater then occasional situations , they corrupt the innovations , so some will make crimes to get some. yet multiple rules shoudl get replaced esp in the experience that your no longer a organization , going to detention center in view which you smoke pot or have some is quite very ridiculous , Im happy i stay in canada for that , the guidelines are plenty greater sane

What good does marijuana do to you? It suppresses your mind, which means you won't be fully conscious and might do stuff you'll regret later. And would you allow your own child to smoke a joint or drink?
