I,with my friends plan to make 3D animated short films based on classic fairytales and sell them to some TV channel. We plan to write our own script based on the fairy tales and folk tales taken from the internet and from libraries. some of these stories have unknown authors and some have been compiled by someone. So, if I use these sources for my works, will there be a violation of copy rights, intellectual property rights and stuff like that?

If you use true folk tales or classics, like Grimm's fairy tales it is public domain. absolutely.

BUT, if the art looks like someone else's art (like Disney's version of Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, or Simba or anything Disney EVER did) they will sue, and probably will win, or push you into bankruptcy.

I believe most fairy tales are out of copyright. Best to do a search on the U.S. Copyright office first.

You can offer the writer renumeration or they will receive royalties for the rest of their life. CAll a laywer and ask him regarding copyright laws, they know everything or should find out for you, you might not even have to pay for this service.

no anything really old can be used unless it's been updated - for example sitcoms can do a romeo and julit variation because the descendants of Shakespeare don't have the rights to his works

Most of the films of India are copied or modified from other films, you will copy or modify other films, others will copy or modify your film. No inventions or innovations.
