Ok, I know that their are some bad lawyers that will do anything for money but my question is in regards to public DAs, when a guy is clearly wrong and did sometimes horrendours things, how do you do your job to not just defend him but to help him get a lower sentence? And how do you do that day after day?

I guess that's in the job description of a lawyer. They have to be cold, ruthless, and have no feelings whatsoever. I guess it's their nature to debate even if they know it's wrong. It's just part of their job and a way to make lots of money. I feel sorry for the world about those types of lawyers. I'm not saying that all lawyers are bad, but 90% of them are! (I'm not a lawyer by the way, I'm a doctor and I enjoy helping people everyday, not harmiing them.)

i have no idea. i have a case that should of been dismissed over a year ago and they are making it immpossible for a fair trial. the people that are responsible got their cases dismissed. i work 8-10 hours a day i don't understand why or where the da comrs up with evidence against me. i have no record thus far but the da is gonna make sure i will not have a fair trial. it's like it's personal. the cops broke their own laws and regulations and i look like a henious criminal as she let the 2 henious criminals go free. i am a nurse and these people think i have all kinds of money and time to do drugs, hold down a full time job, and raise 2 kids as my husband does nothing but steal and was dealing drugs and when i found out i told him never to come back. life is hard enough without having to deal with that crap. well he had all day to put bad things in my house and the cops helped him or i guess believed him. these people want to take my livlihood away because these evil people don't want to own there illrgal doings because these 2 guys will go to prison the rest of their lives but i'm sure they knew that when they were doing them. the da has no conscience to abuse my children and fabricate lies and tamper with evidence. because i have a job so i have money? where do they get the money when i have no job to pay? so i don't know how they live with themselves? they are not protecting the good citizens of this country. morally these people will have to answer for even having the thought of convicting an innocent person knowingly. i chose to be a nurse fo help people not make theie lives hell. i love what i do i have ethics and keep people independent in there homes. i love my job and i don't get paid all that much. it's not all about money if's also believing in what you do. i have never maliciously hurt or destroy anyones life i surely didn't think anyone would do that to me. they are not up holding any laws they are doing the good people of this country an injustice, this could happen to you or your children. here i sit wondering if i am going to prison. i am angry at myself for allowing evil people in my life.

Dr.Julia is partially correct. But it's not a matter of being cold and ruthless. It's a matter of putting aside personal feelings so you can do your job as a professional.

I know several defense attorneys, who are very caring and ethical people, it's not always easy for them to do that. But they are professionals, and they do their job to the best of their ability.

As far as the rest of the time, it's also the lawyers job to make the govt work for its convictions. That's the nature of the adversarial system. And now having seen it how it works from the attorney's perspective, the prosecution will often greatly over-charge on an indictment, tacking on every top-end crime they can think of, because they expect to not get all of the past the judge, let alone past the jury.

Prosecutors know that over 80% of criminal cases settle before trial, so they shoot high and expect to be plead down. That's how the game works. And it's an adversarial game, so both sides need to play it.

The Anglo-American legal system is adversarial. If you don't provide a lawyer for every defendant, the criminal trial is void.

How many people are unjustly convicted? Maybe because of inadequate representation? (Read Bob Woffinden's book)

If JonBenet's parents didn't have money, they would have been railroaded. Even the most "obviously guilty" criminals are often not guilty. And DAs often don't care.

How many times is someone released 10 years after conviction based on DNA and the DA says he was guilty anyway. Or guilty of something else if not what he was convicted for?

As a CJ major when people in my class asked this question the answer was simple "a person is to be judged by a jury of their peers" so no matter what...the attorney does not and should not judge them...........also defens attornies should make sure the law is followed...if an officer planted evidence (I know this rarely happens) or something about the trial is unfair or not right....the person should get off because it is up to the state to prove them guilty....they do not have to prove themselves innocent.......however I think defense attornies are on the evil side of the courtroom LOL
