I think tampasmiles is correct. However, my own experience is that hypnosis just enabled me to concentrate more effectively on visualizing some images from the past. So I didn't learn anything new, just saw some images in brighter colors and "brighter" emotions than they used to be. The hypnotist also tried to manipulate me to remember some nonsense things like my own birth but it was quite clear to me that although I did visualize something, it was not real.

It's possible that someone less skeptical than I would have interpreted the images more radically than I did. Or maybe I was just lucky not to be exposed to a really evil hypno-shrink.

I used to be in a band where the harmonica player used to do regression sessions. He was working with a client, as I was trying to sleep in next room.

I was instantly transported to a life as a Chinese prince. I saw my former life, and I saw my bones being exposed by winds in a desert. I was not even being the one hypnotised.

A few years later, I asked another therapist to regress me. Voluntarily! Changes your life? In a sense it made me see some things differently. It only made me understand some things I was re-acting to. It is not a bad thing to remember the past.

You are asking how much your life will change.............?! Do you need it to? I used my regression to understand some of my fears and suspicions, but I still had to decide what I had to do in the here and now.

In order to be hypnotised one must be a willing partner and being a willing partner leaves you open to all kinds of suggestion. Who knows if what you think your remembering is truth or just your subconcios mind playing itself out.

Beware of hypnosis. Basically you are putting yourself into a position where your mind is extremely open to suggestion and manipulation. "Recovered" memories can be very suspect, as therapists and hypnotists in the past (and even today) unwittingly influenced the minds of their patients while under hypnosis and ended up producing false memories. This is well documented (see the links below for more information).
