Patina is supposed to happen. I can always tell a fake LV from a real one because the fake ones never patina.

But just in case you want the pale leather look, keep it away from sunlight (some women actually patina their LV bags on purpose for a year before even using them) and when it's not in use, store it in a dark place inside a airtight ziplog bag or some other sort of storage device.

How old is the pocketbook? I'm not a expert, leather will either darken or lighten depending on how and what you clean it with--hit sadderly /tack shops(horse) and bring your bag if it is really vintage Vuitton then the sadderly oils will darken it, but if even 70's LV's have a tough vinyl base? you know if you know louis', almost the entire bag is that chocalate background with theLV cream initials, only the handle and piping is the leather, and yes i agree i like mine the pale light, I would suggest trying the Louis Vuitton web site. Vintage is so hot right now. Good luck and thank are momma's. L.S.
